Sony’s expertise in sensors, imaging technology, artificial intelligence, and digital entertainment is expected to play a central role in the vehicle’s user experience.

Sony Honda Mobility has taken another step toward its electric vehicle ambitions by unveiling the Afeela electric SUV prototype at the Consumer Electronics Show 2026. The prototype provides insight into the direction of the joint venture between Sony Group and Honda Motor, combining advanced digital technologies with established automotive engineering.

The Afeela electric SUV is based on the Vision-S 02 concept, which Sony first introduced at CES 2022. Since then, the concept has evolved into a more production-oriented prototype, reflecting refinements in design, technology, and vehicle architecture. While the model shown at CES 2026 remains a prototype, Sony Honda Mobility has confirmed that the production version is targeted for a market debut in 2028.

Design-wise, the Afeela SUV features a clean and modern exterior, with smooth surfaces and aerodynamic proportions typical of next-generation electric vehicles. The design prioritises efficiency while maintaining a premium and futuristic appearance. Although detailed specifications have not been disclosed, the SUV is expected to be built on a dedicated electric platform developed jointly by the two companies.

A key focus of the Afeela project is the integration of software, connectivity, and entertainment. Sony’s expertise in sensors, imaging technology, artificial intelligence, and digital entertainment is expected to play a central role in the vehicle’s user experience. Features such as advanced driver assistance systems, in-car infotainment, and connected services are likely to be core elements of the production model.

Honda, on the other hand, brings its experience in vehicle engineering, safety systems, and manufacturing processes. The partnership aims to deliver a vehicle that meets global safety and quality standards while offering a technologically advanced driving experience.

Sony Honda Mobility has positioned the Afeela brand as a premium offering in the electric vehicle segment. While initial launches are expected in select global markets, the company has indicated that it will evaluate regional expansion strategies closer to the production launch.

The unveiling of the Afeela electric SUV prototype underscores the growing convergence of the technology and automotive industries. As electric vehicles become increasingly software-driven, collaborations such as Sony and Honda’s are expected to shape the future of mobility. Further details regarding specifications, pricing, and market availability are likely to be revealed closer to the 2028 debut.
