Tata Motors, one of India's leading automobile manufacturers, has announced the commencement of production for the highly anticipated Harrier EV. The electric version of its popular SUV, the Harrier, is being manufactured at the company’s production facility in Pune. Deliveries to customers are expected to begin in the coming weeks, making it one of the most awaited electric SUV launches in the country.
The Harrier EV was first showcased as a concept at the Auto Expo and has since generated considerable interest among consumers and industry analysts. With its entry into production, Tata Motors has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in India and expanding its zero-emission product lineup.
Design and Platform
The Harrier EV retains the rugged and bold design language of its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart but comes with unique elements that distinguish it as an electric vehicle. It is built on the Acti.EV platform, Tata’s dedicated electric architecture, which supports future EV developments in the company’s portfolio. The front grille is sealed for aerodynamics, and the vehicle features distinctive LED lighting and new alloy wheel designs.
Performance and Range
Although Tata Motors has not revealed the final technical specifications, the Harrier EV is expected to feature dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) capability, offering both performance and stability on various terrains. Early estimates suggest the driving range will be around 500 kilometers on a full charge, depending on driving conditions and battery variant. It will likely support fast charging, allowing a significant charge in under one hour.
Features and Safety
The Harrier EV is expected to offer a premium cabin experience, equipped with features such as:
- A large touchscreen infotainment system
- Digital instrument cluster
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)
- Multiple airbags and a strong safety cell
The vehicle will also include connected car technology and over-the-air (OTA) updates, making it a tech-forward choice for modern consumers.
Market Position and Pricing
Tata Motors is positioning the Harrier EV as a premium electric SUV, targeting urban professionals and families looking for a stylish, powerful, and sustainable mobility solution. Although the official pricing is yet to be announced, industry expectations place the ex-showroom price in the range of ₹30 to ₹35 lakh, making it a competitor to other mid-size electric SUVs in India.
Future Outlook
The launch of the Harrier EV follows the success of Tata’s existing EV models such as the Nexon EV and Tiago EV. With growing consumer demand for electric mobility and supportive government policies, the Harrier EV is expected to play a significant role in expanding the brand’s EV market share.
The official launch event, followed by customer deliveries, is expected to take place soon. Tata Motors will also be offering test drives and financing options through its authorized dealerships across the country.
