Jeep has globally unveiled the third-generation Compass SUV, marking a significant evolution in design, technology, and powertrain options. The new model is built on Stellantis' STLA Medium platform, shared with vehicles like the Citroën C5 Aircross, and is set to begin deliveries in Europe by the fourth quarter of 2025. However, Jeep has confirmed that this latest iteration will not be launched in the Indian market.
Design and Dimensions
The third-generation Compass retains the brand's signature boxy silhouette but incorporates modern design elements inspired by the Jeep Avenger and Grand Cherokee. Notable features include a revised seven-slot grille, angular LED matrix headlights, and a more rugged bumper design. The SUV measures 4,549 mm in length, making it 155 mm longer than its predecessor, and offers a wheelbase of 2,795 mm, providing an additional 55 mm of legroom for passengers
Interior Enhancements
Inside, the Compass features a completely redesigned cabin equipped with advanced technology and premium materials. Highlights include a 16-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, and physical controls for ease of use. The interior also boasts leather upholstery with contrast stitching, metal-look trim accents, a dual-pane sunroof, and a head-up display. Additional storage has been improved with 34 liters of front interior space and a 45-liter increase in boot capacity, totaling 550 liters.
Powertrain Options
Jeep offers the new Compass with multiple powertrain options:
Mild-Hybrid: A 48-volt system producing 143 horsepower.
Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV): Delivers 192 horsepower.
Fully Electric (BEV): Available in three configurations:
Front-wheel drive with 210 horsepower and a range of 500 km (WLTP).
All-wheel drive with 370 horsepower and a range of 650 km (WLTP).
The electric variants support 160 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 20% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes.
Off-Road Capabilities
Staying true to Jeep's off-road heritage, the new Compass offers a ground clearance of up to 200 mm, an approach angle of 20 degrees, a breakover angle of 15 degrees, and a departure angle of 26 degrees. The SUV also features a water fording depth of 470 mm and comes equipped with Select-Terrain drive modes to adapt to various terrains.
India Launch Status
Despite the comprehensive upgrades and global appeal, Jeep has decided not to introduce the third-generation Compass in India. The decision is attributed to the STLA Medium platform's lack of commercial viability in the Indian market and the current Compass's modest sales figures in the country. As a result, Stellantis has shelved plans for the new Compass's Indian launch.
Conclusion
The third-generation Jeep Compass represents a significant step forward in design, technology, and sustainability. While it will not be available in India, the SUV is poised to strengthen Jeep's presence in the European market and cater to the growing demand for electrified vehicles.
