Yamaha Motor Company has entered India’s growing electric two-wheeler market with the launch of its first electric scooter, the Yamaha EC 06. Priced at Rs 1,67,600 ex-showroom Delhi, the scooter is designed to cater to urban commuters who are increasingly seeking sustainable, emission-free mobility solutions. With this launch, Yamaha joins a competitive segment that includes electric scooters from Hero Electric, Ola Electric, and Ather Energy, among others.
The Yamaha EC 06 is offered in a single Bluish White colour and will be available exclusively through select Yamaha Blue Square dealerships in designated cities across India. These showrooms have been chosen to handle sales, servicing, and after-sales support for Yamaha’s first electric scooter, ensuring a focused and premium ownership experience.
The EC 06 comes equipped with a lithium-ion battery pack that delivers a claimed range of 169 kilometres on a single charge, making it suitable for daily city commutes. The scooter also features fast charging capability, allowing riders to recharge the battery in a reasonable time, reducing downtime for urban users. Yamaha has emphasised ride quality, reliability, and the brand’s trusted engineering in the design of the EC 06.
Designed with a modern and sporty aesthetic, the EC 06 blends Yamaha’s signature styling cues with practical features for city riding. Its ergonomically designed seat and lightweight frame ensure easy handling in traffic, while the scooter’s smooth acceleration and quiet operation make it a convenient option for daily commutes. The dashboard includes digital instrumentation that displays battery status, range, and riding modes.
Industry analysts say Yamaha’s entry into the electric scooter market comes at a time when demand for EVs in India is accelerating due to government incentives, lower running costs, and growing awareness of environmental sustainability. By offering a well-engineered electric scooter backed by Yamaha’s experience in two-wheelers, the EC 06 is expected to appeal to brand-loyal customers as well as new EV buyers.
The launch of the EC 06 also aligns with Yamaha’s global strategy to expand electric mobility offerings and reduce carbon emissions in line with international sustainability goals. The company plans to monitor the market response and expand availability to additional cities in India over the coming months.
With urban mobility shifting towards electric vehicles, the Yamaha EC 06 aims to provide a balance of range, style, and brand trust. Its competitive pricing, combined with Yamaha’s service network, positions it as a viable choice for consumers looking for an entry-level electric scooter with a reliable brand pedigree.
The Yamaha EC 06 marks a significant milestone for the Japanese manufacturer in India, signalling the start of its journey in the EV space and reinforcing its commitment to sustainable and efficient urban transportation.
