The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued nine notices to Swiggy Instamart following multiple consumer complaints alleging violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The notices are part of the food regulator's process of examining complaints and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations.
The development comes shortly after Swiggy informed stock exchanges that it had received a prohibition order from the FSSAI regarding its food ordering and delivery platform, Toing. According to the company, the order related to the updating of particulars in its FSSAI licence and did not involve any food safety violations.
In its regulatory filing, Swiggy stated that the prohibition order was issued by the Designated Officer of the FSSAI in Karnataka. The company explained that the observations were administrative in nature and were linked only to the updating of licence information. Swiggy further said it had obtained a modified FSSAI licence on July 9, 2026, following which the issue was resolved.
The company also clarified that the matter is not expected to have any material financial impact on its business operations or financial position. Swiggy added that no monetary penalty had been imposed in connection with the licence-related observations.
Meanwhile, the nine notices issued to Swiggy Instamart relate to separate consumer complaints alleging possible violations under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The FSSAI has sought responses from the company as part of its standard regulatory process. At this stage, the issuance of notices does not constitute a finding of guilt or establish that any violation has occurred.
