In a major initiative aimed at promoting skill development and industry engagement among students, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has launched an internship program for 500 students across India. The move is part of BIS's ongoing efforts to strengthen awareness of standardization and quality control among the country’s youth.
The internship program is open to students pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees in disciplines such as engineering, science, law, and management. Candidates from both technical and non-technical backgrounds are eligible, making it an inclusive opportunity to understand the functioning of India's apex standard-setting body.
According to an official BIS statement, the internship will last two months and be conducted in various BIS offices and laboratories across India. Interns will work under the supervision of BIS professionals and gain exposure to diverse domains, including product certification, laboratory testing, standard formulation, and consumer affairs.
Interns will also be encouraged to participate in policy analysis, research projects, and public awareness campaigns on quality assurance. At the end of the internship, students will receive a certificate of participation and a stipend as per BIS guidelines.
The application process is entirely online through the official BIS website. Interested students need to fill out a detailed form including academic qualifications, a statement of purpose, and preferred areas of interest. The final selection will be based on academic performance and relevance to BIS activities.
This internship program is part of a larger push by BIS to build awareness around the importance of quality standards in everyday life and professional sectors. It also aligns with national skill-building and employment initiatives such as Skill India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Speaking on the launch, BIS Director General Pramod Kumar Tiwari said, “This initiative is designed to nurture young minds, bridge the gap between academia and industry, and promote a culture of quality consciousness across sectors. We invite students to be part of this journey.”
The BIS internship announcement has already generated interest among educational institutions, with universities encouraging students to apply. Experts believe such opportunities offer invaluable exposure to government functioning and can enhance employability in both public and private sectors.
Students can visit the official BIS website to apply and learn more about eligibility criteria, internship structure, and deadlines.
