The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), the conducting body of the Common Admission Test (CAT), has announced an extension of the registration deadline for CAT 2025. This decision comes as a major relief to thousands of candidates who were yet to complete their application process. Students aspiring to pursue postgraduate management programs at IIMs and other top business schools across the country can now use the extended window to apply through the official portal, iimcat.ac.in.
CAT is one of the most prestigious entrance examinations in India, conducted annually for admission into MBA and other management programs offered by IIMs and over 1,000 business schools nationwide. The exam is a crucial milestone for aspirants aiming to secure a place in highly competitive programs, making the registration window one of the most closely followed events in the academic calendar.
As per the new update, the application deadline has been pushed beyond the original closing date to allow a larger number of students to register. The extension is expected to benefit candidates from remote regions, those facing technical difficulties, or students awaiting final academic results. With the rising number of applicants, the extension ensures inclusivity and greater participation in the upcoming test.
The registration process requires candidates to create an account on the official website, fill in personal and academic details, upload relevant documents, and pay the application fee online. Applicants are advised to carefully review their information before submission, as errors may lead to rejection. Categories such as General, OBC, SC, ST, and PwD have different fee structures, and candidates must check eligibility requirements before completing the form.
CAT 2025 will be conducted in November across multiple test centers in India. The exam pattern will follow the familiar structure of three sections: Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, and Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning. Each section will have a fixed duration, and the entire test will be computer-based. Candidates need to perform well in all three sections, as sectional cut-offs are considered during the admission process.
Once registered, candidates will receive updates regarding the admit card release date and exam guidelines. The admit cards, which are mandatory to appear for the examination, will be made available on the official portal a few weeks before the exam. Post-exam, the results are expected to be declared in January 2026, after which the selection process for IIMs, including Written Ability Tests, Group Discussions, and Personal Interviews, will begin.
Education experts believe that the extension of the registration deadline is a positive move that reflects the increasing demand for management education in India. With the IIMs continuing to expand their intake and private business schools strengthening their placements, CAT remains the most preferred route for students aspiring to enter the corporate and entrepreneurial sectors.
Candidates are strongly advised not to wait until the last date to complete the registration process. Early submission helps avoid last-minute technical issues and ensures smoother application verification. With this extension, aspirants now have a final opportunity to secure their chance of appearing for CAT 2025, which could shape the course of their academic and professional careers.
