It aims to equip students with foundational knowledge in AI and its applications through a structured curriculum that emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking, and responsible use of AI tools.

The Government of India has officially launched a nationwide initiative titled ‘Skilling for AI Readiness’ with the objective of preparing school students for the evolving world of artificial intelligence. The program is a strategic step under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and is designed to create early awareness and understanding of AI among young learners from classes 6 to 12.

The initiative will be implemented across both public and private schools in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, CBSE, and several technology partners. It aims to equip students with foundational knowledge in AI and its applications through a structured curriculum that emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking, and responsible use of AI tools. The effort is aligned with the broader vision of Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat to empower youth with future-ready skills.

The curriculum is expected to be introduced gradually, beginning with pilot programs in select schools. Training modules will include theoretical understanding, practical workshops, and project-based learning methods. Students will also be introduced to real-life applications of AI in sectors like healthcare, agriculture, environment, and education.

To support this, teachers across India will undergo training to deliver AI-focused lessons. The government plans to provide online and offline learning resources to help both educators and students adopt AI concepts effectively. Additional support from industry experts and academic institutions will be facilitated through webinars, mentorship programs, and interactive learning sessions.

One of the core objectives of the program is to democratize access to AI learning. This includes providing resources in multiple Indian languages and leveraging digital platforms to reach remote and rural areas. The initiative also places a strong emphasis on ethical and responsible use of AI technologies. Students will be educated on issues related to data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the social impact of automation.

In addition to academic training, the initiative will offer students opportunities to participate in national-level AI challenges, innovation contests, and hackathons. These activities aim to foster innovation and provide a platform for students to showcase their AI-driven solutions to real-world problems.

Officials have highlighted that this program is not just about creating coders or developers, but about nurturing a generation that is AI-literate and ready to adapt to the technological changes shaping the global economy. By integrating AI education early in the learning cycle, the government hopes to bridge the digital skills gap and create a talent pipeline for emerging industries.

The launch of ‘Skilling for AI Readiness’ marks a significant milestone in India’s efforts to build a future-oriented education ecosystem. As the program progresses, continuous evaluation and feedback from educators, students, and industry stakeholders will help refine and expand the initiative across the country.
