Delhi University remains one of the most sought-after institutions for undergraduate studies in India. Since the introduction of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) as the primary admission criterion, students across the country have been eager to understand the marks or percentile required for admission to various DU colleges and programs. The score needed largely depends on several factors, including the course, college, student category, and performance of applicants in a particular year.
For general category students aiming for top colleges like SRCC, Hindu College, Lady Shri Ram, St. Stephen’s, and Miranda House, admission into high-demand courses such as BA English, BCom Honours, Economics Honours, and Political Science typically requires above 98 percentile in CUET UG. In 2024, several courses closed admissions for unreserved seats around 99 percentile, making competition extremely stiff.
On the other hand, for reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC, and EWS, the required percentiles tend to be slightly lower. For example, admission to the same courses in top colleges might be possible at percentiles ranging from 92 to 96, depending on the year’s applicant pool and seat availability.
Courses that are less in demand or offered by off-campus colleges may have significantly lower cut-off scores. For instance, programs in languages, vocational studies, or physical sciences in some colleges may admit students with percentiles in the range of 80 to 90. However, this is still subject to change based on how students perform in that particular CUET cycle.
Unlike previous years when Delhi University followed a merit-based cut-off model based on board marks, CUET now brings a level playing field through standardized testing. Still, admission is not guaranteed solely on scores. College preferences, program combinations, seat category, and counseling rounds also impact the chances of getting admission.
It is also important for students to select the right subject combinations in CUET based on their intended major. For example, a student aspiring to pursue BCom Honours must have taken CUET sections that include General Test, English, and Mathematics or Accounts. Failing to meet subject requirements could disqualify a candidate even with a high score.
Admission at DU is conducted through a centralized Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS). Students must register, list their college and program preferences, and participate in multiple rounds of counseling. Seats are allotted based on CUET scores and merit ranking.
In conclusion, while there is no fixed minimum mark for admission to Delhi University, aiming for 95 percentile or above in CUET UG offers the best chance, especially for popular programs and colleges. Aspirants are advised to review previous year cut-off data, stay updated on admission notices, and prepare for counseling with a clear strategy.
