IAS officer Tina Dabi, one of the most well-known toppers of the UPSC Civil Services Examination, has recently shared valuable insights and a time table for aspirants preparing for the UPSC Mains 2025 exam. Having secured the All India Rank 1 in 2015, Dabi’s guidance continues to inspire thousands of civil service aspirants across the country.

In a recent online session, Tina Dabi addressed the significance of structured preparation during the critical Mains phase. She emphasized that answer writing, time management, and daily discipline are the three pillars of success at this stage.

According to her, aspirants must divide their study schedule into four parts:

  1. Static Subjects (GS Papers I–IV): These should be revised in rotation, allocating at least 2–3 hours per day for one GS subject, ensuring coverage of the syllabus multiple times.
  2. Optional Subject: A minimum of 2 hours should be dedicated daily to the chosen optional paper. She advised covering both papers simultaneously rather than one after another.
  3. Essay Practice: At least one essay per week should be attempted in exam-like conditions.
  4. Answer Writing Practice: Daily answer writing is essential. Practicing 3–5 questions from previous years or mock tests can help improve speed and structure.

Tina also highlighted the need for newspaper reading, especially editorials, to build analytical perspectives for GS papers and essays. She recommended limiting news reading to 1 hour per day to avoid information overload and maintain focus on core syllabus topics.

Key tips shared by Tina Dabi include:

  • Use the UPSC syllabus as the guiding document and map every topic with current affairs.
  • Revise frequently, preferably every week, to retain information and reduce exam stress.
  • Practice full-length mock tests, particularly under timed conditions, to develop exam stamina and precision.
  • Stay consistent and avoid last-minute changes in strategy, books, or sources.

She further mentioned that aspirants should be mindful of the Presentation aspect in answers—diagrams, flowcharts, and headings can make a positive impression on evaluators. Moreover, balancing factual content with analytical depth is crucial.

Addressing mental health, Dabi urged aspirants to avoid burnout and take short breaks between long study hours. She emphasized that rest is as important as preparation and advised maintaining a regular sleep cycle.

Tina Dabi concluded her session by motivating aspirants to stay focused and believe in their ability. She stressed that every successful candidate has one thing in common: persistence.

With the UPSC Mains 2025 exam drawing closer, her advice comes at a crucial time for aspirants looking to refine their strategy and stay on track in the final months of preparation.

She recommended limiting news reading to 1 hour per day to avoid information overload and maintain focus on core syllabus topics.
