The Indian Institute of Technology Madras and the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development have joined hands to develop next generation artificial intelligence and immersive learning technologies for education.
The collaboration was formalised through an agreement involving representatives from both institutions. The signing took place in the presence of Obijiofor Aginam, Director of UNESCO MGIEP, Manu Santhanam, Dean of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research at IIT Madras, and M Manivannan, Head of the Experiential Technology Innovation Centre at IIT Madras.
The partnership brings together two different areas of expertise. UNESCO MGIEP has a strong focus on Social and Emotional Learning, while IIT Madras contributes expertise in artificial intelligence, Extended Reality, game design and immersive technologies.
The objective is to explore how these technologies can be used to create more engaging and learner centric educational experiences.
Artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming part of education. AI based systems can assist teachers, personalise learning experiences and support the development of educational content.
