Kannur district claimed the coveted Gold Cup at the 64th edition of the Kerala School Kalolsavam, reaffirming its strong presence in school-level cultural competitions across the state. The prestigious arts festival, widely regarded as Asia’s largest school arts event, concluded on Sunday after days of vibrant performances and intense competition among students from all districts of Kerala.

In the final district-wise tally, Kannur secured the top position with a total of 1,028 points. Thrissur followed closely behind with 1,023 points, narrowly missing the title, while Kozhikode finished third with 1,017 points. The close margins highlighted the high level of competition and artistic excellence displayed throughout the festival.

The Gold Cup was formally handed over to the representatives of Kannur district by acclaimed Malayalam actor Mohanlal during the closing ceremony. His presence added grandeur to the concluding event, which celebrated young talent across art forms such as classical and folk dance, music, theatre, literary events, and visual arts.

Apart from the district-level honours, individual school performances also drew significant attention. In the school category, BSS Gurukulam Higher Secondary School, Alathur, located in Palakkad district, emerged as the overall champion by securing 238 points. The school’s consistent performance across multiple categories played a key role in its top ranking.

SVGVHSS Kidangannur from Pathanamthitta district secured second place in the school category with 157 points, while MGMHSS Mananthavady from Wayanad district finished third with 136 points. These schools were recognised for their strong representation across cultural events and their contribution to the competitive spirit of the festival.

The Kerala School Kalolsavam is organised annually by the General Education Department of Kerala and serves as a platform for students to showcase their artistic skills at a state level. Over the years, the festival has played a significant role in nurturing young talent, many of whom later go on to make notable contributions in arts, culture, and cinema.

This year’s edition witnessed enthusiastic participation from thousands of students, teachers, and cultural enthusiasts. The event also highlighted Kerala’s commitment to preserving and promoting its rich artistic heritage through school education.

With another successful edition concluded, the Kalolsavam once again reinforced its reputation as a celebration of creativity, discipline, and cultural diversity among Kerala’s student community.
