The Government of Kerala has formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education to join the PM SHRI (Schools of Rising India) Scheme, a flagship program aimed at improving the quality of education in government schools nationwide. This collaboration marks a significant step towards modernizing school infrastructure and promoting innovative teaching practices in the state.

The PM SHRI Schools Scheme was launched with the objective of developing select government schools as model institutions, ensuring holistic education that includes digital literacy, co-curricular activities, and student-centric learning methodologies. Through this scheme, schools are expected to adopt advanced pedagogical practices, implement improved infrastructure, and introduce technology-enabled classrooms.

As part of the agreement, the Kerala Education Department will work closely with the Ministry of Education to identify eligible schools for the PM SHRI program. Selected schools will receive funding for infrastructure upgrades, installation of smart classrooms, and provision of modern teaching and learning resources. Emphasis will also be placed on training teachers to enhance pedagogical skills and adopt innovative teaching methods.

The initiative aligns with the state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public education and ensure equitable access to quality learning opportunities. By implementing the PM SHRI framework, Kerala aims to create an ecosystem where students can develop both academic and life skills, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.

Officials from the Ministry of Education highlighted that the MoU will facilitate knowledge sharing, capacity building, and the introduction of best practices from successful model schools across the country. The collaboration also includes regular monitoring and evaluation of school performance to ensure effective implementation of the scheme.

Parents and students in Kerala are expected to benefit from improved school facilities, access to digital learning tools, and a better overall learning environment. The scheme also encourages community participation and collaboration among teachers, students, and local authorities to create a more inclusive and vibrant educational experience.

Experts believe that the PM SHRI Schools initiative can serve as a catalyst for overall educational reforms in Kerala, complementing existing programs aimed at enhancing literacy, digital skills, and student well-being. Schools under the scheme are expected to act as centres of excellence, demonstrating effective teaching practices and holistic student development.

With Kerala joining the PM SHRI Schools Scheme, the state reaffirms its commitment to strengthening public education and ensuring that government schools provide high-quality learning experiences comparable to private institutions. The MoU signifies a strategic partnership between the state and central government to drive meaningful change in the education sector.
