In its official statement, the NTA said, “Candidates are advised to note that no calculators, log tables, or any electronic or digital devices are permitted during the conduct of the JEE Main 2026 examination.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a revised version of the JEE Main 2026 information bulletin, clarifying several key rules regarding the upcoming engineering entrance examination. Among the most important updates, the NTA has categorically stated that calculators and other electronic devices remain strictly prohibited during the exam.

The clarification comes after multiple reports and social media discussions led to confusion among candidates about whether certain types of calculators might be permitted. The NTA has now reaffirmed that only rough sheets provided by the examination center may be used for calculations. No personal stationery, gadgets, or digital tools will be allowed inside the test hall.

In its official statement, the NTA said, “Candidates are advised to note that no calculators, log tables, or any electronic or digital devices are permitted during the conduct of the JEE Main 2026 examination. All necessary rough work must be done on the sheets provided by the invigilator.”

The JEE Main serves as one of India’s largest engineering entrance examinations, offering admission opportunities to prestigious institutions such as NITs, IIITs, and Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), while also acting as the qualifying test for JEE Advanced for entry into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Apart from the clarification regarding calculators, the revised bulletin also provides updates on the application schedule, correction window, and examination mode. The January session of JEE Main 2026 is expected to be conducted in the computer-based mode, with strict adherence to exam security protocols.

Candidates will have to undergo biometric verification, frisking, and document verification before entering the exam hall. The NTA has reiterated that bringing prohibited items such as smartwatches, pens, notes, or communication devices could result in disqualification and further disciplinary action.

Additionally, the bulletin highlights important instructions about photo and signature uploads, admit card issuance, and exam center guidelines. Students have been urged to thoroughly read the document available on the official website, jeemain.nta.ac.in, to avoid last-minute confusion or mistakes during the examination process.

Education experts have welcomed the move, stating that such clarifications help ensure a level playing field for all candidates. “In an exam of national importance like JEE Main, even small misunderstandings about what’s allowed can lead to panic or unfair advantages. This update brings much-needed clarity,” said an academic consultant in Delhi.

The NTA’s approach aligns with global standards for computer-based testing, where personal electronic devices are disallowed to maintain exam integrity and prevent malpractice.

Candidates are also reminded that the mock test links available on the NTA’s official website and National Test Abhyas app can be used to familiarize themselves with the online exam interface.

As the JEE Main 2026 exam dates approach, aspirants are encouraged to focus on preparation, stay informed through official notifications, and refrain from relying on unverified sources of information circulating online.
