The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education is set to introduce a new twice-yearly examination system for Class 10 and Praveshika students from the 2026-27 academic session. The revised system will provide students with an additional opportunity to improve their academic performance within the same academic year.
Under the new arrangement, the Rajasthan Board will conduct a main examination followed by a second remedial examination. The first examination will remain the primary board examination, while the second examination will provide eligible students with an opportunity to improve their results or meet the required passing criteria.
The change is part of the Rajasthan Board's revised examination system and is aimed at providing greater flexibility to students. The decision also follows the broader approach of reducing examination pressure and giving students more than one opportunity to demonstrate their academic performance.
According to the revised rules reported by the Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan, students who pass the main examination can appear for the second examination if they want to improve their marks. Such students will be allowed to improve their performance in a maximum of three subjects.
The higher subject-wise marks obtained in the main and second examinations will be considered while preparing the final result. This means that students do not have to worry about losing their better marks from the first examination if their performance in the second examination is lower.
For example, if a student scores higher marks in Mathematics in the main examination but performs better in Science during the second examination, the final result can take the higher marks achieved in each respective subject, subject to the applicable board rules.
The revised system is also expected to change the existing supplementary examination arrangement. From the 2026-27 academic session, the Rajasthan Board has replaced the earlier supplementary examination approach with the second examination under the new system.
Students who do not meet the minimum passing requirement in a limited number of subjects can also be eligible for the second examination under the Essential Improvement category. Under the reported rules, students who score below the minimum passing marks of 33 percent in up to two subjects may be eligible for the second examination. Specific eligibility conditions will depend on the official examination rules issued by the board.
Students who are eligible for the second examination can therefore use the additional opportunity to improve their academic status. The system is expected to be particularly useful for students who narrowly miss the passing requirement in one or two subjects.
Another important provision concerns admission to Class 11. Students who fall short of the passing requirement in the permitted number of subjects may receive provisional admission to Class 11 based on their main examination performance. Their admission status can subsequently be confirmed depending on their performance in the second examination.
The revised system also provides continuity for internal assessment and session marks. These marks are awarded once and are carried forward to the final result instead of being repeated for the second board examination.
The new examination structure is expected to provide students with greater flexibility in managing their academic performance. Under the traditional system, students who wanted to improve their results generally had to wait for a separate supplementary or improvement opportunity. The new system brings the second opportunity into the same academic session.
The first examination is expected to be conducted during the February to March period, while the second examination is expected to take place later in the academic year. The exact dates, examination centres and detailed application procedures will be announced by the Rajasthan Board through its official notifications.
The decision is also linked to the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020, which encourages assessment reforms and seeks to reduce excessive examination pressure on students. The Rajasthan Board's revised structure gives students an additional opportunity without requiring them to wait for another academic year.
For Class 10 students, the most important point is that the first examination remains compulsory. Students who qualify can subsequently choose to appear for the second examination for improvement in up to three subjects. The final marks will be determined by considering the higher marks obtained in the respective subjects.
Students and parents should carefully check the official RBSE notifications before making decisions about the second examination. Eligibility conditions, application deadlines, subject choices and other procedural requirements will be governed by the board's official rules.
The Rajasthan Board's official website currently carries information related to the 2027 main examination and other examination-related updates. Students are advised to rely on the official RBSE portal for examination schedules, application notices, admit card information and result updates.
The introduction of two examination opportunities is expected to give students more flexibility while preparing for Class 10 and Praveshika examinations. It also gives students an opportunity to improve subject-wise performance without waiting for another academic session.
Overall, the revised system marks a significant change in the way Rajasthan Board Class 10 examinations will be conducted. From the 2026-27 academic session, students will have a main examination and a second opportunity examination, subject to the eligibility conditions prescribed by RBSE. The best subject-wise performance from the two examinations will be used for the final result where improvement is permitted.
