Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu – In a unique effort to connect the younger generation with India’s heritage, a retired Indian Army officer has organized a stamp exhibition in Thoothukudi. The exhibition showcases an impressive collection of stamps that depict key moments in India’s history, from the freedom struggle to modern-day achievements.

Held at a local educational institution, the exhibition is drawing students, teachers, and history enthusiasts from across the region. The retired officer, who has been an avid stamp collector for decades, curated the event with the goal of promoting historical awareness and national pride among schoolchildren.

The stamp collection includes rare and vintage pieces, some dating back to the pre-Independence era, featuring prominent leaders, cultural events, and important milestones. Each stamp is accompanied by detailed information, allowing visitors to learn about the context and significance behind each item.

Speaking to the media, the organizer said, “Stamps are small windows into history. Through this exhibition, I want students to understand the sacrifices, struggles, and progress that have shaped our country. It’s a creative way to bring history out of textbooks and into real life.”

Educators attending the exhibition praised the initiative for its educational value, noting that such interactive experiences can greatly enhance students’ understanding and appreciation of history. Some schools have even arranged special field visits for their students to attend the event.

The retired officer also plans to expand the exhibition to other districts in Tamil Nadu and conduct awareness sessions on philately—the art of stamp collecting—among schoolchildren. He hopes the initiative will inspire young minds to take interest in India’s historical journey and cultural richness.

This initiative not only preserves and promotes India’s heritage through philately but also stands as an example of how retired defence personnel continue to serve the nation in meaningful ways beyond their active duty.
