The Uttar Pradesh government has announced revised guidelines for admissions under the Right to Education Act for the academic year 2026–27. The updated rules focus on strengthening the implementation of the 25 percent reservation mandated for children from economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups in private unaided schools. The move is intended to bring greater transparency, uniformity, and accountability to the admission process across the state.
As per the new guidelines, all applications for RTE admissions will be accepted only through an online portal developed by the state education department. Parents and guardians will be required to submit necessary documents digitally, including proof of residence, income certificates, and age verification. Offline applications will not be entertained, a step aimed at reducing irregularities and ensuring equal access to the admission process.
Selection of students under the RTE quota will be carried out through a lottery system. Education officials stated that this method is designed to prevent bias and ensure fairness when the number of applicants exceeds available seats. The lottery will be conducted centrally, and results will be published online to maintain transparency.
The guidelines also stress strict enforcement of the 25 percent quota in private unaided schools. Institutions have been instructed to comply fully with the provisions of the Right to Education Act. Schools found denying admission to eligible students or failing to follow prescribed procedures may face penalties or administrative action. District education officers have been directed to monitor the process closely and address grievances in a time-bound manner.
The government has clarified that reimbursement to private schools for admitting students under the RTE quota will continue as per existing norms. However, timely submission of required documentation by schools will be essential to ensure smooth disbursement of funds.
Officials believe that the revised framework will help expand educational opportunities for children from underprivileged backgrounds and promote social inclusion. The online system is expected to simplify the application process for parents while allowing authorities to track admissions more effectively.
Parents are advised to regularly check official notifications for details regarding application timelines, eligibility criteria, and lottery dates. The education department has reiterated that only information published on official platforms should be relied upon for updates.
With these changes, Uttar Pradesh aims to reinforce the objectives of the Right to Education Act by ensuring that quality schooling is accessible to all children, regardless of their economic background.
