Non political and non sectarian activities may still be conducted within school campuses provided that the organizers obtain prior approval from the appropriate authorities.

The Tamil Nadu government has introduced new regulations prohibiting private schools from hosting political ideological or communal activities within their campuses. The directive has been issued to ensure that school premises remain neutral academic environments focused on education and student welfare.

According to officials from the School Education Department the new order applies to all private educational institutions across the state. The government stated that schools should not allow their facilities to be used for events or gatherings that promote political ideologies communal views or sectarian interests. Authorities emphasized that educational institutions must remain spaces that encourage learning discipline and harmony among students from diverse backgrounds.

The regulation also specifies that the restrictions will apply at all times including weekends holidays and after school hours. This means that private school managements cannot allow their premises to be used for such activities even when classes are not in session. The government believes that maintaining neutrality within school campuses is essential to prevent students from being exposed to political or communal influence in educational spaces.

However the government has clarified that not all events will be restricted. Non political and non sectarian activities may still be conducted within school campuses provided that the organizers obtain prior approval from the appropriate authorities. Such events may include cultural programs educational seminars community awareness activities and other programs that support student development without promoting any political or ideological agenda.

Officials said that the decision was taken following a recent controversy involving a private school in Cuddalore district. The incident reportedly raised concerns about activities that were conducted on school grounds and whether they aligned with the purpose of educational institutions. After reviewing the situation the state government decided to introduce clearer guidelines to prevent similar issues in the future.

Education department authorities have also directed private school managements to strictly follow the new regulations. Schools that fail to comply with the directive could face administrative action under relevant education rules. Officials added that district level education officers will monitor the implementation of the order and ensure that institutions follow the guidelines properly.

The government believes that the measure will help protect the academic atmosphere of schools and ensure that educational campuses are not used for activities that may create division or controversy. Maintaining neutrality in schools is seen as important in promoting an environment where students from different social cultural and religious backgrounds can learn together without external influence.

Education experts have often highlighted the importance of keeping educational spaces separate from political or ideological campaigns. Schools are expected to focus on academic learning character development and the overall growth of students.

With the new directive in place the Tamil Nadu government hopes to reinforce the role of schools as institutions dedicated to knowledge and learning while preventing the misuse of school premises for activities unrelated to education.
