The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad has directed education authorities in 33 districts to ensure complete daily online attendance registration in secondary schools within six days. The order covers students, teachers and non teaching staff working or studying in government, government aided and self financed secondary schools across the state.
The directive was issued after the UP Board reviewed online attendance data and found very low compliance in several districts. According to the Board, schools in the identified districts had recorded online attendance in 10 percent or fewer schools. The Board has described the situation as a sign of inadequate compliance with its instructions and insufficient supervision at the district level.
The online attendance system is intended to provide a digital record of attendance and improve monitoring across schools. Under the existing requirement, schools are expected to register daily attendance through the Board's designated web portal or mobile application. The latest instruction places responsibility on district level education officials to ensure that schools follow the requirement consistently.
Bhadohi emerged as the district with the lowest reported compliance. According to the district wise figures, none of the 196 schools listed in the district had submitted online attendance. Unnao recorded online attendance from only two out of 417 schools, representing about 0.48 percent compliance.
Several other districts also recorded very low levels of online attendance. Mirzapur reported compliance from three out of 308 schools, while Farrukhabad recorded attendance from three out of 283 schools. Saharanpur recorded participation from four out of 351 schools. Gonda reported seven out of 516 schools, while Prayagraj recorded online attendance from 17 out of 1,110 schools.
The low compliance was not limited to a small number of schools. The Board identified 33 districts where online attendance registration was recorded at 10 percent or below. The districts include Bhadohi, Unnao, Mirzapur, Farrukhabad, Saharanpur, Gonda, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, Chandauli, Kanpur Nagar, Mainpuri, Siddharthnagar, Agra, Ballia, Sonbhadra, Hamirpur, Azamgarh, Kaushambi, Kanpur Dehat, Jaunpur, Sultanpur, Fatehpur, Ghazipur, Hathras, Bulandshahr, Lucknow, Banda, Hardoi, Aligarh, Firozabad, Bahraich, Deoria and Gorakhpur.
The figures indicate that the issue involves schools across different parts of Uttar Pradesh, including major districts such as Lucknow, Prayagraj, Agra and Gorakhpur. Lucknow recorded online attendance from 71 out of 778 schools, or about 9.13 percent. Agra recorded attendance from 53 out of 920 schools, while Gorakhpur recorded attendance from 51 out of 515 schools.
Following the review, the UP Board instructed the concerned District Inspectors of Schools to take immediate steps to improve compliance. The district officials have been given six days to ensure that 100 percent online attendance is registered in the schools under their jurisdiction.
The Board has also communicated its concern over the low level of implementation to the concerned district authorities. According to reports, semi official communications were issued to the District Inspectors of Schools in the affected districts following the review of attendance data.
The directive applies to all relevant secondary schools regardless of whether they are government run, government aided or self financed. This means school managements and education officials are expected to use the prescribed digital system for recording daily attendance of students, teachers and non teaching employees.
The move is part of the state's effort to strengthen digital monitoring and administrative accountability in school education. Online attendance allows education authorities to monitor participation through a centralized system instead of relying only on physical registers maintained at individual schools.

The UP Board's latest directive therefore places greater emphasis on compliance with the existing online attendance system rather than introducing a new attendance requirement. Schools are expected to record attendance digitally each day, while district education officials have been asked to monitor implementation and achieve complete compliance within the specified period.
