The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially released the notification for the Civil Services Prelims Exam 2025 and the Indian Forest Service (IFS) Prelims Exam. Aspiring candidates can register online starting January 22, 2025, with the deadline set for February 11, 2025. The Civil Services Prelims exam is slated to take place on May 25, 2025.

This year, UPSC aims to fill 979 vacancies across various cadres in the Civil Services, marking a reduction of 77 positions compared to the previous year. For the IFS, a total of 150 vacancies have been announced. Aspirants should note that the final vacancy numbers are subject to change based on updates from Cadre Controlling Authorities.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must hold a degree from a recognized university or possess equivalent qualifications. Final-year students can also apply, provided they present proof of passing before the Mains exam. Specific allowances are available for medical graduates awaiting their internship.

Age limits and the number of attempts vary based on the category:

  • General candidates: Up to 6 attempts (maximum age 32).
  • OBC: 9 attempts (maximum age 35).
  • SC/ST: Unlimited attempts (maximum age 37).
  • PwBD: 9 attempts (maximum age 42).

Selection Process

The UPSC Civil Services Examination comprises three stages: the Preliminary exam, Main exam, and Personality Test.
