The upcoming psychological thriller Accused, starring Konkana Sen Sharma and Pratibha Ranta in lead roles, is set to make its OTT debut on Netflix on February 27. Directed by Anubhuti Kashyap, the film is produced under the banner of Dharma Productions and promises a thought provoking exploration of belief, trust, and the fragile boundaries between truth and perception.
Accused is a queer themed psychological drama set in London. The story revolves around Dr Geetika, portrayed by Konkana Sen Sharma, a respected surgeon whose professional and personal life takes a dramatic turn after she is accused of sexual misconduct. The allegations threaten not only her reputation but also her relationships and emotional stability. Pratibha Ranta plays Meera, Geetika’s wife, who appears to be living a seemingly ideal life until unforeseen events challenge her understanding of truth and loyalty.
The film delves into how accusations, regardless of their outcome, can deeply affect individuals and families. It raises difficult questions about belief, social judgment, and the consequences of public perception. Through its narrative, Accused seeks to examine how quickly trust can erode and how personal relationships are tested during moments of crisis.
Backed by producers Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Soman Mishra, the film also has Parth Dholakia serving as executive producer. The project marks a significant collaboration between Konkana Sen Sharma and Pratibha Ranta, both of whom are known for choosing strong, content driven roles.
Speaking about the film, Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Director of Original Films at Netflix India, described Accused as a meaningful and emotional story that captures the complexity of truth and belief. She highlighted that the film explores the personal cost of accusations and how they impact individuals beyond the surface narrative. She also praised director Anubhuti Kashyap for handling a powerful subject with sensitivity and depth.
Ruchikaa further noted that both lead actresses deliver standout performances, bringing layered emotions to the story and enhancing its psychological intensity. Netflix expressed confidence in the film’s storytelling and its ability to resonate with audiences through its realistic and nuanced portrayal of difficult themes.
Accused adds to the growing slate of Indian films exploring unconventional narratives and socially relevant subjects on OTT platforms. With its focus on psychological conflict, personal relationships, and moral ambiguity, the film is expected to appeal to viewers seeking serious, thought driven cinema.
As the release date approaches, Accused is drawing attention for its bold subject matter, strong performances, and its attempt to spark conversations around trust, truth, and accountability in modern society.
