Nag Ashwin's mytho-scifi adventure film Kalki 2898 AD, which premiered on May 9, is now gearing up for an international release in Japan, slated for early 2025. According to earlier reports, the makers are collaborating with Twin, the distribution company owned by Kabata Keizo, the same company that brought SS Rajamouli's RRR to Japanese audiences in 2023. In addition to Japan, the filmmakers are planning releases in Russia and China, signaling a broad global reach for the film.
Featuring a star-studded cast, including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, Kalki 2898 AD became one of the highest-grossing Indian films, earning $140 million worldwide. Set in a dystopian future, the film depicts a world where natural resources have been depleted, and humanity struggles to survive under the rule of a powerful elite residing in 'The Complex.'
Produced by Ashwini Dutt, Swapna Dutt, and Priyanka Dutt under Vyjayanthi Movies, the film is already building anticipation for its sequel. With ambitious plans to further expand the mytho-scifi universe introduced in the film, Kalki 2898 AD is set to continue captivating audiences across the globe.
