The much-anticipated Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has released its first trailer, bringing back Renee Zellweger as the titular character. This time, Bridget is navigating life as a widowed single mother, seeking love once more after the tragic death of her husband, Daniel Cleaver. The trailer also confirms the return of Colin Firth as Mark Darcy, who continues to live on in Bridget's mind, and Hugh Grant as the charming but flawed Cleaver.
The film, directed by Michael Morris (To Leslie), is based on Helen Fielding’s 2013 novel, which chronicles a widowed Bridget entering the dating scene once again. Unlike the earlier books, Bridget now chronicles her life through texts and tweets, adding a modern twist to her familiar challenges with family, work, and romance. Bridget's journey seems to include a new love interest, played by Leo Woodall, alongside her friends, portrayed by returning cast members such as Sarah Solemani, James Callis, Sally Phillips, and Shirley Henderson.
Additionally, Emma Thompson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Isla Fisher join the cast in new roles, while Jim Broadbent and Gemma Jones return as Bridget's parents. Produced by Tim Bevan, Jo Wallett, and Eric Fellner through Working Title Films, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is slated to release in theaters and on Peacock on February 14, 2025. The film promises to bring Bridget’s unique blend of wit, warmth, and charm to a whole new chapter in her life.
