Charlize Theron has joined the star-studded cast of Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film, set to hit theaters in 2026. The film, which marks Nolan’s 13th feature, is produced by his wife Emma Thomas under their Syncopy banner. Alongside Theron, the ensemble cast includes Zendaya, Matt Damon, Lupita Nyong'o, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson. While details of the plot and the roles of these actors remain tightly under wraps, fans are eagerly speculating about the film's premise.
Nolan will both direct and write the film, which is expected to begin production in early 2025. The project is backed by Universal Pictures, marking a continued partnership between the director and the studio following the success of Oppenheimer in 2023. This collaboration follows Nolan's high-profile departure from Warner Bros. in 2020. Unlike Oppenheimer, which Universal acquired through an open auction, Nolan’s upcoming film was secured directly by the studio.
In addition to her role in Nolan's untitled project, Theron is also set to appear in The Old Guard 2 and the thriller Apex, alongside Taron Egerton. This project will be Theron's first time working with Nolan, while other cast members, such as Matt Damon, are returning collaborators—Damon previously worked with Nolan on Interstellar (2014) and Oppenheimer (2023). Robert Pattinson, who starred in Tenet (2020), will reunite with Nolan, as will Zendaya and Lupita Nyong’o, marking their first collaboration with the director.
The film is expected to be released in IMAX on July 17, 2026.
