Lupita Nyong’o, the Oscar-winning actress, has been cast in Christopher Nolan's upcoming project for Universal Studios, joining a star-studded ensemble that already includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Zendaya. The film, which is slated for an Imax release on July 17, 2026, will mark Nyong’o's first collaboration with the renowned director.
Details about the film's plot remain under wraps, but it is expected to begin production in early 2025. Nolan will direct and write the screenplay, with his wife Emma Thomas producing under their Syncopy banner. This project is set to be Nolan’s 13th directorial venture and will be his third collaboration with Matt Damon, following Interstellar (2014) and Oppenheimer (2023). Tom Holland will also be working with Nolan for the first time.
Universal Studios is yet to officially confirm Nyong’o's involvement, but her addition to the cast is generating considerable excitement. This collaboration comes after Nolan’s successful partnership with Universal on Oppenheimer, which won several Academy Awards, including Best Actor and Best Director. Unlike Oppenheimer, which Universal secured via an open auction, Nolan's upcoming project has been directly acquired by the studio.
Recently, Nyong’o starred in A Quiet Place: Day One for Paramount and voiced a character in The Wild Robot, a Universal and DreamWorks Animation production. The anticipation surrounding this film is building, as fans eagerly await further details and the official release.
