Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha producer Prakash Mahobiya has spoken about the film’s performance at the box office and alleged that a negative marketing campaign affected its theatrical run. The producer claimed that the film did not get enough opportunity to reach its intended audience because of negative comments and information circulating online.
The allegations have brought the upcoming Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, into the discussion because both projects are based on the Ramayana. However, Mahobiya has not directly confirmed that the Ramayana team was responsible for the alleged campaign. He said that he had been told about such activities but did not know for certain who was behind them.
Speaking to India Today, Mahobiya said he believed the film faced negative marketing throughout its theatrical run. According to the producer, people who watched the film gave positive feedback, but many potential viewers did not get an opportunity to see it. He argued that audiences should be able to watch a film before forming an opinion about it.
Mahobiya further claimed that negative comments about the film were being circulated among YouTubers, influencers and other online personalities. He alleged that misleading information was being spread and that some people were discouraging audiences from watching the film.
When he was specifically asked whether he was accusing Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra’s team of being behind the alleged campaign, the producer did not make a direct accusation. Instead, he said that he was not certain and that this was information his team had received. The allegation has not been independently established.
Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha was released in theatres on September 25, 2026. The film is directed by Abhishek Singh and features Anjali Arora, Dev Sharma and Rajneish Duggal in key roles. The film faced criticism even before its release, including discussions around casting and visual effects. After its theatrical release, additional criticism surfaced on social media.
According to reports, the film had a limited theatrical run and did not attract the audience response expected by its makers. The producer, however, said that the primary disappointment was not the financial loss but the belief that many viewers did not get the chance to watch the film.
Mahobiya has now indicated that the makers are planning to give Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha another opportunity in theatres. A new release date has not yet been announced. The producer said the team has developed a plan for the second theatrical release and hopes that the film can reach a wider audience.
The producer also said that the team had collected feedback from audiences in states including Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. According to him, viewers who watched the film provided encouraging feedback. Based on this response, the makers decided to consider another theatrical release rather than abandoning the project.
At this stage, the team is reportedly not planning major reshoots. The film is expected to return to theatres largely in its existing form, with the makers hoping that a fresh release and wider audience reach will allow viewers to form their own opinions about the movie.
Mahobiya has also described the experience as a learning process because this is his first production. He acknowledged that he was new to the business of marketing a film after its completion. The producer said the team remains confident about the work they have created and wants audiences to judge the film on its own merits.
The controversy has also drawn attention because another major Ramayana adaptation is approaching its release. Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The project is planned as a two part film, with the first instalment scheduled around Diwali 2026 and the second part planned for 2027.
The two projects are separate productions, and there is currently no independently established evidence that the Ramayana team conducted a negative marketing campaign against Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha. Mahobiya’s comments should therefore be understood as allegations made by the producer rather than as a confirmed finding.
For now, the focus remains on the proposed re release of Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha. The makers have not announced the new theatrical release date, and it remains to be seen whether the second release will help the film connect with a larger audience.
