Prepare for Senna, a limited series that delves into the life and career of the iconic Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna, set to launch on Netflix on November 29. The streaming platform recently unveiled a new image showcasing Gabriel Leone as the titular character.
Ayrton Senna is celebrated as one of the greatest F-1 drivers in history, having secured three World Championships, 41 race victories, 65 pole positions, and 80 podium finishes between 1984 and 1994. Tragically, he lost his life in a devastating racing accident during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix in Italy.
The series aims to chronicle not only Senna's illustrious racing career but also his personal life, highlighting his relationships and the emotional highs and lows he experienced. It will begin with his early days in motor racing as a Formula Ford competitor in England and will encompass the events leading to his tragic accident.
In addition to Gabriel Leone, the cast features Pamela Tome as Senna's TV star girlfriend, Xuxa; Patrick Kennedy as Ron Dennis, principal of the McLaren team; Gabriel Louchard as Brazilian sports commentator Galvao Bueno; and Matt Mella as rival driver Alain Prost.
Senna is not the first portrayal of the legendary racer; it follows the critically acclaimed documentary Senna, directed by Asif Kapadia, produced by Scottish filmmaker Kevin Macdonald, which is regarded as one of the greatest sports films of all time.
The series is helmed by Vicente Amorim, who also directs alongside Julia Rezende. Gustavo Braganca serves as the head writer, while Caio Gullane and Fabiano Gullane are the producers, with the project developed in association with Senna's family.
