Josh Brolin has officially joined Edgar Wright’s highly anticipated remake of The Running Man in a villainous role, starring opposite Glen Powell. The film is a remake of the 1987 classic that featured Arnold Schwarzenegger, with Powell stepping into the shoes of Schwarzenegger’s character from the original. The news was announced by Brolin himself at New York Comic-Con.
The Running Man is based on Stephen King's dystopian novel, originally published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. Set in a dystopian future in the United States, the story revolves around a wrongly convicted police officer who is given a chance at freedom by participating in a brutal, high-stakes television game show. The original film, directed by Paul Michael Glaser, has become a cult favorite, and Wright’s take on the story promises to bring his unique flair to the table.
Alongside Powell and Brolin, the cast features All American star Daniel Ezra and Love Lies Bleeding actress Katy O'Brian. Edgar Wright, known for his distinct filmmaking style in titles like Baby Driver, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, will not only direct but also produce the film with Nira Park and Simon Kinberg.
Glen Powell, coming off a string of successful films like Anyone But You, Twisters, and Hit Man, takes on the role of the protagonist, who fights for survival in the deadly game show. Meanwhile, Brolin, who turned down a role in DC’s Lanterns, is busy with other exciting projects like Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery and the upcoming horror thriller Weapons, directed by Barbarian's Zach Cregger.
With a talented cast and crew behind it, The Running Man remake is shaping up to be a thrilling action-packed reboot that fans of the original and new audiences alike will look forward to.
