The Oscar Awards, considered the pinnacle of recognition in the film industry, honor cinematic masterpieces across the world every year. The 97th edition of the prestigious awards will feature the Best International Feature Film category, where India's Lapata Ladies had initially been selected as one of the contenders. In total, 85 films were submitted for the Oscar consideration, with 15 films shortlisted for the final nominations.
Unfortunately, Lapata Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, has now been eliminated from the official list for the Best International Feature Film category. Despite this setback, another Hindi film, Santosh, directed by Sandhya Suri, has secured a place in the race for the Best International Film Oscar. The film, which was screened at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, garnered positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. While Lapata Ladies may not make it to the final round, the recognition of Santosh is a proud moment for Indian cinema at the global stage.
