Poorna Jagannathan, celebrated for her role in Never Have I Ever, has been cast in a prominent recurring role in HBO's highly anticipated Lanterns series, based on the iconic Green Lantern DC Comics. She joins an impressive ensemble cast led by Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, and Kelly Macdonald, alongside fellow recurring actor Garret Dillahunt.
Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, Lanterns follows John Stewart (Pierre), a newly minted Green Lantern, and the seasoned Hal Jordan (Chandler), as they navigate the challenges of intergalactic law enforcement. Their latest case leads them to a murder in the American heartland, pulling them into a complex, Earth-bound investigation with far-reaching consequences.
Jagannathan will play Zoe, a character known for her confidence, poise, and sharp intellect. She remains unfazed in high-pressure situations and navigates the male-dominated world around her with ease. There is speculation that her character might form a romantic link with John Stewart. In addition to Jagannathan, the show also features Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry, who has a connection to Hal Jordan, and Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, a modern-day cowboy.
This eight-episode series is a collaborative project between HBO, Warner Bros. Television, and DC Studios, with Chris Mundy serving as the showrunner. Lindelof and King are co-writers and executive producers. James Hawes is directing the first two episodes and also serves as an executive producer.
Jagannathan is also a regular cast member on Hulu's upcoming comedy Deli Boys, produced by Onyx Collective. Apart from her role in Never Have I Ever, she recently appeared in Apple TV's ensemble film Wolves.
