Netflix has revealed that Running Point, a highly anticipated sports comedy series starring Kate Hudson, is set to debut on February 27. Created by Mindy Kaling, the series explores the challenges of navigating the unpredictable and male-dominated sports industry.
Hudson stars as Isla Gordon, who is thrust into the role of president for the LA Waves basketball team after a scandal forces her brother to resign. Isla must prove her worth to her skeptical brothers, the team’s board, and the larger sports community. Jay Ellis joins the cast as Jay Brown, a seasoned head coach known for his zen-like leadership, which has guided the team to multiple championships.
The official logline describes the show as a blend of ambition, family drama, and comedy, as Isla strives to solidify her place in a traditionally male-led industry. The series also stars Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, and Max Greenfield, among others.
Kaling serves as co-writer and executive producer alongside frequent collaborators Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen, with Stassen also acting as showrunner. The production team includes Jeanie Buss, Limba Rambis, Howard Klein, and Hudson herself. Warner Bros. Television, in association with Kaling’s production banner Kaling International, will helm the project, along with Jordan Rambis.
With a mix of humor and heartfelt storytelling, Running Point promises to deliver an engaging look at the intersection of sports, family, and leadership.
