The Transformers franchise has been gradually expanding its mythology around the "13 Primes" for over two decades, and now, this storyline is set to come to life with the launch of the Transformers: Age of the Primes toy line. A recently leaked promotional video, shared by Hasbro, gives fans a closer look at some of the characters that will be featured in the new collection, shedding light on the broader narrative of the series and its deep connection to the Dynasty of Primes.
The video, which is narrated by Optimus Prime, explores the backstories of several key characters and their ties to the legendary Dynasty of Primes, an ancient order of Transformers who play a crucial role in the franchise’s lore. Two of the central characters in this new wave of toys are Prima Prime and Solus Prime, both of whom will be introduced as action figure variants. These characters are expected to be part of the first wave of the Age of the Primes figures, marking their long-awaited debut in the toy line.
One of the standout figures revealed in the video is "Star Optimus Prime," a new iteration of the iconic leader. This figure is based on the "Star Convoy" design from the Transformers: Return of Convoy manga and toy line from the early 1990s, offering a fresh take on Optimus Prime's character. This throwback to the classic design is sure to excite fans who remember the original Star Convoy toy, and it demonstrates how the new toy line is blending past and present Transformers lore.
In addition to Prima Prime, Solus Prime, and Star Optimus Prime, the video also hints at other familiar Transformers characters who will be making their way into the Age of the Primes collection. Among the confirmed characters are the Generation 1 Aerialbots, specifically Superion, and Transformers: Armada's Red Alert. Another figure in the lineup is Wasp from Transformers Animated, which further expands the range of characters from different eras of the Transformers universe.
Looking ahead, more beloved characters are expected to be added to the toy line in later waves. Fans can likely expect to see characters like Sky-Byte from Transformers: Robots in Disguise and Heatwave from Transformers: Rescue Bots. These figures will add to the rich diversity of the collection, ensuring that both long-time fans and newer enthusiasts of the franchise will find something to enjoy.
The Transformers: Age of the Primes toy line is shaping up to be a significant release for the franchise, combining new figures with nostalgic references to the past. As the mythology of the 13 Primes continues to unfold, collectors and fans can look forward to a wide array of figures that bring the legendary Transformers characters to life in exciting new ways. With its mix of classic designs and fresh updates, the Age of the Primes collection promises to be a must-have for any Transformers enthusiast.
