Actor-lawyer Sabumon Abdusamad is set to make his directorial debut with a legal drama featuring actress Prayaga Martin in a principal role. He announced this exciting news on social media during the Vijayadashami festival, sharing his enthusiasm for his first venture behind the camera. "As an advocate of the law, I have always known my first film would come to life in the courtroom," he expressed, hinting at the legal themes of the film. Although he couldn’t divulge too many details at this stage, Sabumon did indicate that the film would be a legal drama deeply rooted in realism. It is produced by Sanju Unnithan under the banner of Spire Productions.
Sabumon also shared his excitement about having the talented Prayaga Martin on board for the project, further enhancing the film’s appeal. Alongside this announcement, he posted a photo featuring himself, Prayaga, and Sanju, marking a significant moment in the film's journey.
Interestingly, Sabumon recently accompanied Prayaga to the police station amidst ongoing investigations related to a drug case involving gangster Om Prakash. He clarified his presence at the police station, stating he was there as a friend offering legal assistance, and emphasized that Prayaga has been cleared of any wrongdoing. Sabumon underscored the importance of standing by friends during tough times, a sentiment that resonates deeply in the film industry.
Sabumon, who first gained recognition in the early 2000s through the television show Tharikida, made his acting debut in the 2002 film Nakshathrakkannulla Rajakumaran Avanundoru Rajakumari, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran. He rose to further prominence after winning the inaugural season of the Malayalam version of Bigg Boss in 2018, hosted by Mohanlal. This victory significantly boosted his popularity and opened doors for more film opportunities.
His recent appearance in Rajinikanth's latest film Vettaiyan, directed by T J Gnanavel, has continued to solidify his presence in the film industry. On the other hand, Prayaga Martin, known for her compelling performances in both Malayalam and Tamil films, was last seen in Jamalinte Punchiri, directed by Vikki Thambi and featuring Indrans.
As Sabumon steps into the director's role, the anticipation surrounding this legal drama continues to grow, marking a new chapter in his multifaceted career.
