In a recent interview with Connect Cine, renowned composer AR Rahman addressed the disqualification of the soundtrack for Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life) from the Grammy Awards. He revealed that the soundtrack, which features Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role, fell short by one minute of the required length for Grammy eligibility. Rahman stated, “I did Goat Life for Blessy. We released four tracks, and because it was one minute less or something, it didn't qualify for the Grammy entry.”
According to the Recording Academy's official guidelines, recordings must consist of at least five different tracks with a total playing time of 15 minutes, or a total length of at least 30 minutes with no minimum track requirement, to be considered an album. The original motion picture soundtrack of Aadujeevitham runs only 14 minutes.
Additionally, Rahman mentioned that he did not submit the soundtracks for Ponniyin Selvan for Grammy consideration. “I don't think I put PS 1 and PS 2 on the list last year. I don’t think we entered that one. It all depends on things coming together,” he added.
Recently, Rahman was honored with the National Award for Best Music Director (Background Music) for his contribution to Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 (2022), receiving the award from President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi.
His latest project includes Raayan, the second directorial venture of Dhanush. Rahman is also engaged in several upcoming films, including Chhaava, Thug Life, Genie, Gandhi Talks, and more. Furthermore, he is collaborating with director Hansal Mehta, known for Scam 1992, on an upcoming series titled Gandhi.
