The production team behind Kathanar: The Wild Sorcerer has wrapped up its extensive shooting schedule in Kerala, completing a remarkable 212 days of filming over a span of 18 months. In their statement, the makers announced, "Kathanar's main chapter has been completed." With only 12 days of shooting left, the final leg will take place in Rome, Italy, signaling the film's near completion.
Kathanar, an ambitious fantasy thriller, draws inspiration from the legendary tales of Kadamattathu Kathanar, a Kerala priest reputed for his supernatural abilities. Directed by Rojin Thomas, the film showcases Jayasurya in the lead role, who has undergone a significant physical transformation for the part, including weight loss.
The film also marks Anushka Shetty's debut in Malayalam cinema, portraying the female lead. Notably, it features Prabhu Deva, returning to Malayalam films after a 13-year hiatus since his last appearance in Santhosh Sivan's Urumi. Additionally, actor and dance choreographer Sandy, known for his role in the Vijay-Lokesh Kanagaraj film Leo, will play a significant character.
Scripted by debutant R Ramanand, Kathanar is positioned as a pan-India project, employing cutting-edge virtual production technology for the majority of its scenes. The technical team includes Neil D Cunha as the cinematographer, Jungjin Park as the action choreographer, and Rahul Subrahmanian Unni as the music director. The film is produced by Sree Gokulam Movies, promising to be a visually stunning addition to Indian cinema.
