Filmmaker Chidambaram Poduval, best known for directing the Malayalam film Manjummel Boys, has been booked in Kochi following allegations of sexual harassment. The case was registered by Ernakulam South Police after a woman filed a formal complaint in connection with an incident that allegedly took place in 2022.

According to police officials, the case was registered on March 1 after recording the complainant’s detailed statement. Authorities stated that the matter is being investigated under Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Section 74 pertains to assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, while Section 75 addresses sexual harassment.

Police sources indicated that procedural steps were followed prior to the registration of the first information report. Officials confirmed that the investigation is at a preliminary stage and further inquiries will be conducted in accordance with legal provisions. A notice is expected to be issued to the director, asking him to appear before investigators for questioning.

As of now, there has been no public response from Chidambaram Poduval regarding the allegations. Authorities have not disclosed additional details about the nature of the complaint, citing the sensitivity of the case and the need to protect the identity of the complainant.

The development has drawn attention within the Malayalam film industry, where Manjummel Boys had emerged as a commercially successful project. The film received widespread recognition and contributed to the director’s growing prominence in regional cinema.

Legal experts note that cases registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita follow a structured investigation process, including recording statements, gathering evidence and verifying claims before any further legal action is taken. The police have emphasised that the investigation will proceed based on available evidence and due legal procedure.

Officials have also reiterated that the accused is entitled to a fair investigation under the law. Further updates are expected once investigators complete preliminary inquiries and record additional statements, if required.

The case comes amid broader discussions in the entertainment industry regarding workplace conduct and accountability. Law enforcement authorities have urged the public to rely on official updates and avoid speculation while the investigation remains ongoing.

Police confirmed that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
