The makers of Mohanlal's directorial debut, Barroz 3D – Guardian of Treasure, recently unveiled a new motion poster of the upcoming fantasy film on their social media on December 8, Sunday. The film, which is set to hit cinemas worldwide on December 25, has already released its highly anticipated trailer. The trailer, presented as a virtual 3D experience, begins with a voiceover that introduces a special ghost said to reside in the da Gama Palace. It then reveals Mohanlal in the lead role as Barroz, a fierce protector of the palace’s hidden treasures, guarding them from intruders.
Barroz is a period fantasy film based on Jijo Punnoose’s novel Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure. The plot revolves around Barroz, a guardian who has protected Vasco da Gama's treasure for over four centuries. Along with Mohanlal, the film stars Maya, Cesar Lorente Raton, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Tuhin Menon, Guru Somasundaram, and others. A behind-the-scenes video released earlier gave fans a glimpse of Mohanlal directing the film, showcasing its elaborate production design and immersive world-building. Shot in 3D, the film features music composed by Lydian Nadhaswaram.
The journey of making Barroz has been challenging. Despite the setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the filming continued with multiple script revisions and cast changes. The film was initially slated for release on September 12, coinciding with the Onam festival. However, due to potential competition with Tovino Thomas' Ajayante Randam Moshanam, the release was postponed. The official release date was finally confirmed as December 25 through a special video featuring director Fazil.
With its fantasy storyline, elaborate production, and Mohanlal’s direction, Barroz is one of the most anticipated films of the year.
