The Malayalam thriller Paathirathri is preparing for its digital debut, nearly four months after its theatrical release. The film will begin streaming on ZEE5 from 20 February 2026, offering viewers an opportunity to watch the suspense driven cop drama on an over the top platform.
Headlined by Soubin Shahir and Navya Nair, the film explores the psychological and ethical conflicts faced by law enforcement officers during a single critical night. The narrative unfolds gradually, focusing on tension, investigation and the moral dilemmas that arise when professional duty intersects with personal conscience.
Directed by Ratheena PT, the film attempts to present a layered portrayal of policing under pressure. The story centres on officers who become entangled in a complex case that challenges their integrity and judgement. Rather than relying solely on high paced action, the film emphasises atmosphere and character development.
During its theatrical run, Paathirathri opened to mixed responses from audiences and critics. While some viewers appreciated its restrained storytelling and performances, others felt the pacing was slow compared to conventional commercial thrillers. Despite the varied reactions, the film attracted attention for its serious tone and focus on ethical questions within the police system.
In promotional interactions around the film’s release, Soubin Shahir described the narrative as tense and layered, noting that it builds steadily and maintains suspense through character driven storytelling. Navya Nair highlighted that the film compels audiences to reflect on the moral and personal struggles experienced by police officers, especially when decisions must be made under pressure and uncertainty.
The film was produced by KV Abdul Nazar and Ashiya Nazar under the banner of Benzy Productions. The production team aimed to create a realistic portrayal of events unfolding over a confined time frame, with much of the drama occurring during a single night. This narrative structure allows the audience to experience the escalating tension alongside the characters.
The digital release is expected to expand the film’s reach beyond theatre going audiences. Over the past few years, Malayalam cinema has increasingly found wider viewership through streaming platforms, enabling regional films to connect with national and international audiences. The arrival of Paathirathri on ZEE5 aligns with this broader trend of films transitioning from theatrical runs to digital platforms within a few months.
As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding dubbed versions in other languages. Viewers will need to check the streaming platform for available language and subtitle options upon release.
With its OTT premiere scheduled for 20 February 2026, Paathirathri is set to reach a fresh audience. The digital launch offers the film a second phase of reception, where viewers can reassess its narrative approach and performances outside the theatrical environment.
