This ongoing situation highlights the significant challenges that women in the Malayalam film industry continue to face, especially with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) still investigating allegations against KFPA members.

Producer Sandra Thomas has been expelled from the Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) following allegations of breaching the association's disciplinary standards. The KFPA executive committee, in a meeting held on October 28, 2024, concluded that Sandra had “defamed” the association by making unfounded accusations and repeatedly violating its rules. Her response to a show-cause notice addressing these violations was deemed unsatisfactory.

The tensions between Sandra and the KFPA escalated after she publicly criticized the association for its inaction on issues affecting women producers in the Malayalam film industry. She accused KFPA officials of making derogatory remarks during a meeting about film distribution, which led her to file a police complaint. This was in the wake of a larger controversy involving allegations of misconduct by industry figures, including Listin Stephen, B Rakesh, and Anto Joseph, which resulted in a case being initiated by the Ernakulam Central Police.

Sandra’s expulsion has sparked further controversy as she continues to claim that the KFPA operates in an “anti-women” manner, failing to address concerns raised by its female members. She criticized her removal as an example of undemocratic practices within the association, especially against women who challenge its leadership.

Previously, Sandra had called for changes in the leadership of the KFPA, arguing that discussions about women's issues were often dismissed as trivial. This ongoing situation highlights the significant challenges that women in the Malayalam film industry continue to face, especially with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) still investigating allegations against KFPA members.

Sandra has been behind the production of several notable films, such as Philips and the Monkey Pen (2013), Peruchazhi (2014), Aadu (2015), Adi Kapyare Kootamani (2015), and Nalla Nilavulla Rathri (2023). Her most recent project was the 2024 film Little Hearts, starring Shane Nigam and Mahima Nambiar.
