Ahmedabad: In preparation for the highly anticipated Coldplay concert at Narendra Modi Stadium on January 25-26, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) have introduced robust fire safety measures to ensure the safety of an expected 1.5 lakh attendees. This initiative follows the tragic fire at Rajkot's TRP Gaming Zone last year, which claimed 27 lives.
AFES has provided the concert organisers with a detailed safety checklist addressing potential fire hazards, crowd management, and emergency response protocols. "Ensuring the safety of such a large crowd is paramount," stated a senior AFES official. The checklist includes comprehensive risk assessments, identifying and mitigating hazards such as overcrowding, electrical malfunctions, pyrotechnics, flammable materials, and vehicle-related risks.
Key measures outlined in the checklist include:
- Deployment of 60 trained fire marshalls.
- Submission of a fire safety audit report.
- Clear and unobstructed emergency exits and evacuation routes marked with signage.
- Installation of ABC-type fire extinguishers, operational fire hydrants, and advanced smoke and heat detection systems.
- Implementation of a robust public address system for effective communication during emergencies.
A dedicated Fire Command Centre equipped with video surveillance, AI-driven crowd density analysis tools, communication systems, and power backup facilities is also mandated. Additionally, AFES stressed meticulous occupancy load management, ensuring safe crowd capacities and determining appropriate exit routes based on occupancy factors and maximum travel distances.
Organisers are expected to comply with these guidelines and present a detailed safety plan to AFES before the event. Inspections will be conducted to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
The AMC’s proactive measures aim to create a secure environment for the concert, setting a benchmark for safety at large-scale events in the city.
