Ahmedabad– In a shocking incident in Ahmedabad, two police officers were injured when an SUV driver tried to run them over during a road rage incident on Wednesday evening in the Bhadaj locality. The driver’s attempt to evade a traffic check resulted in a dangerous confrontation, leaving Constable Ajay Desai and Constable Sunil Ishwar injured. Both were rushed to Sola Civil Hospital for treatment.
According to the FIR filed by Desai with the Sola Police, he was on duty at the Bhadaj circle along with ASI Bhavesh Girish and constables Atul Ganesh and Sunil Ishwar when the incident occurred around 7 pm. The officers had spotted the SUV approaching from Ognaj circle to Bhadaj circle, when the driver suddenly attempted to reverse his vehicle to avoid being stopped by the police.
Desai noted in the FIR that when the cops approached the tinted-windowed SUV, the driver aggressively drove the vehicle towards them, trying to run them over. Desai was struck by the vehicle, causing injuries, while Ishwar also suffered injuries after being hit by the car. Both injured cops were given primary treatment at the Sola Civil Hospital OPD.
The police have registered a complaint of attempted murder and voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter a public servant from performing his duty, under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Penal Code). The investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend the SUV driver responsible for the attack.
This incident comes just hours after a similar road rage attack occurred in Sola, where an SUV driver, Sunil Dadhich, hit a 58-year-old ex-IRS officer, Asit Acharya, near Kargil Crossroads. The police are now investigating both incidents, which highlight increasing concerns about road rage-related violence in the city.
Earlier in December, a Bopal resident was also charged after he attempted to hit officers at Tapovan circle, dragging a cop for a kilometre after the officer attempted to stop his vehicle.
