Authorities in Gujarat have initiated a major anti encroachment drive at the Meetha Port area in Kachchh district as part of a broader effort to clear illegal constructions and protect government land. The operation was conducted by the district administration with support from the local police and revenue department. Drone visuals from the site showed several unauthorized structures being demolished using heavy machinery, while security personnel maintained strict vigilance during the operation.
According to officials, the drive was launched after repeated complaints were received regarding encroachments on land belonging to the port and nearby government areas. The Meetha Port region is considered strategically and economically important due to its role in maritime activities and future development plans. Unchecked encroachments were reportedly causing obstacles to infrastructure projects and posing safety risks in the coastal zone.
Senior district officials stated that advance notices were issued to the occupants before initiating the demolition process. However, many of the structures were still illegally occupied at the time of the operation. The administration maintained that due process was followed in accordance with relevant laws before proceeding with the removal of encroachments.
During the drive, bulldozers and excavators were deployed to dismantle both temporary sheds and permanent constructions. Police forces were stationed in the area to prevent any untoward incidents and to ensure that the operation was carried out peacefully. No major resistance or law and order issues were reported during the action.
Officials further said that the drive is part of a larger campaign across Kachchh district to reclaim public land from illegal occupation. The administration has been conducting similar operations in other parts of the district to ensure that government land is used strictly for its intended public and developmental purposes.
The Meetha Port is expected to play an important role in Gujarat’s maritime and industrial development. Authorities believe that clearing encroachments will help in better planning of infrastructure, improve safety standards and attract future investments in the region. The district administration also reiterated that unauthorized occupation of government land would not be tolerated and strict action would continue against violators.
Local residents in nearby areas stated that the presence of illegal structures had increased over the years and was affecting access roads and public spaces. Some residents welcomed the drive, saying it would help restore order and improve the overall environment of the port area. However, a few affected occupants expressed concern over the loss of their structures and livelihood.
Officials said that rehabilitation measures would be considered in accordance with government policies wherever applicable. The administration also appealed to the public to cooperate with future enforcement actions and to avoid any form of illegal construction on public land.
The district authorities confirmed that monitoring using drones and satellite imagery would continue in vulnerable areas to prevent fresh encroachments. The anti encroachment drive at Meetha Port is expected to continue in phases as part of the district’s long term land management and development strategy.
