Ahead of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, the Congress party has unveiled its first list of 21 candidates. Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon has been fielded from the Lohardaga seat, which is reserved for Scheduled Tribes. Ajoy Kumar, a senior Congress leader and former Lok Sabha MP, will contest from Jamshedpur East. Oraon and Kumar, both former police officers, bring significant experience to the electoral arena. Another key figure in this list is Shilpi Neha Tirkey, contesting from Mandar (ST), where she is the sitting MLA.
The selection process involved key members of Congress's Central Election Committee, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi. The Congress is partnering with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in the elections, having previously shared power in the state. The two-phase polling will occur on November 13 and 20, with results to be announced on November 23.
This move sets the stage for a crucial electoral battle in Jharkhand, as the Congress seeks to strengthen its foothold in the state amidst a competitive political environment.
