In a significant political development in Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis is all set to become the state’s Chief Minister once again, following a decision backed by Eknath Shinde, the leader of the Shiv Sena faction. Shinde confirmed that the final call on the CM's post was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
This announcement follows days of intense negotiations and speculation regarding the leadership of Maharashtra after the recent political upheaval in the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shinde-led faction of the Shiv Sena have been in talks over forming a new government in the state following the fallout with the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena.
Eknath Shinde, who led a rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray’s government earlier this year, has agreed to support Fadnavis's bid for the top post. Despite being the leader of the Shiv Sena faction, Shinde has maintained that the decision of the central BJP leadership, including PM Modi and Amit Shah, is final in this matter.
The development signals the culmination of the power struggle in Maharashtra, with Fadnavis’s return to the CM office after his previous tenure from 2014 to 2019. The BJP's role in shaping the state’s governance structure has been crucial in recent weeks, and with the backing of Shinde's faction, Fadnavis’s appointment is expected to solidify the BJP’s influence in Maharashtra politics.
Political analysts are now focusing on how this new alliance will function, given the shifting dynamics between the BJP and the Shiv Sena factions. With Fadnavis at the helm, the new government is expected to prioritize issues like infrastructure development, state governance, and political stability. However, questions remain about the longevity of this alliance, given the past tensions between the two parties.
Maharashtra’s political landscape is set for another chapter as Fadnavis prepares to take office, supported by the Shinde faction and guided by the strategic directions from the BJP leadership.
