Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has strongly criticized current CM Eknath Shinde, alleging that several important industrial and developmental projects are being moved from Maharashtra to Gujarat under the latter's leadership. Thackeray's remarks come amid growing concerns that Maharashtra is losing out on significant investment opportunities, which could have brought economic growth and employment to the state.
Speaking at a recent event, Thackeray stated, “It seems like everything is being taken to Gujarat, leaving Maharashtra behind. The state government, instead of securing the state's interests, is allowing this trend to continue.” He highlighted a series of high-profile projects, including major industrial investments, which have reportedly shifted to Gujarat in recent months.
Thackeray accused CM Shinde of being ineffective in retaining these projects, implying that political favoritism towards Gujarat is harming Maharashtra's development. “Our state's future is at risk. Jobs that could have been created here are now benefiting another state. This is unacceptable, and we demand accountability from the current administration,” Thackeray added.
Shinde's government has come under fire for not doing enough to prevent the migration of projects that were originally intended for Maharashtra. Critics argue that this shift could widen the economic gap between Maharashtra and neighboring states, especially Gujarat, which is rapidly emerging as an industrial hub.
While the Shinde government has defended its stance, claiming that they are actively working to bring new projects into the state, Thackeray’s attack has reignited the debate over Maharashtra's ability to compete for major investments.
This political confrontation underscores the broader concerns about regional economic competition and the role of state governments in securing large-scale development projects. As the issue heats up, both sides are expected to continue exchanging allegations, with the future of Maharashtra's industrial growth hanging in the balance.
