Heavy monsoon showers lashed several parts of Maharashtra on Sunday, causing widespread waterlogging and flooding, particularly in the districts of Washim and Solapur. The continuous downpour has disrupted transportation and affected day-to-day life in both rural and urban areas.
In Washim district, several low-lying areas reported significant water accumulation on roads and residential zones, leading to traffic delays and power outages. The local municipal bodies have deployed emergency response teams to drain out stagnant water and ensure essential services are not interrupted. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert, predicting continued rainfall in the region for the next 48 hours.
In Solapur, the situation turned critical in Kurubavi village, where heavy rains caused a nearby river to overflow, leading to a flood-like situation. Water entered several homes, prompting panic among the residents. Responding to an urgent call from local authorities, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) swiftly deployed a rescue team to the affected village. More than 50 residents were safely evacuated from inundated homes and moved to temporary shelters set up by the district administration.
District Collector of Solapur, in a public statement, confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far, and food, water, and medical aid are being provided to the displaced families. He also urged citizens to avoid venturing into flooded areas and to stay updated through official communication channels.
Emergency control rooms have been set up in both Washim and Solapur to monitor real-time weather updates and coordinate relief operations. Rescue boats, medical teams, and temporary shelters have been kept ready in anticipation of further rainfall.
The Maharashtra State Disaster Management Authority (MSDMA) has directed all district collectors to stay alert and ensure the availability of rescue and relief materials. Local police and fire department personnel have also been deployed in vulnerable regions.
The IMD’s forecast suggests that the monsoon activity may intensify over the coming days in parts of central and southern Maharashtra. Farmers and residents in riverbank regions have been advised to take precautionary measures and safeguard livestock and belongings.
Experts attribute the sudden surge in rainfall to changing monsoon patterns and localized low-pressure systems. Environmentalists also stress the need for improved urban drainage planning and sustainable land use to combat the increasing frequency of flood-related incidents.
In conclusion, the situation remains tense in affected regions, but proactive steps by disaster response teams and local authorities have helped prevent major loss of life. Residents are urged to cooperate with official advisories and prioritize safety as rainfall continues across Maharashtra.
