The district administration has appealed to the public to remain calm and not be swayed by rumors or misinformation circulating on social media platforms.

Lilong, Manipur – Tensions flared in Manipur’s Lilong region as the local administration imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC following a violent incident where the house of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was set on fire by unidentified individuals. The attack reportedly stemmed from public outrage over the leader’s alleged comments supporting the Waqf Act.

The violence occurred late at night when a group of individuals gathered near the BJP leader's residence, raising slogans and eventually torching the house. Although there were no reported injuries, the incident caused widespread panic among residents and heightened communal sensitivities in the region.

In response, local authorities have deployed additional security forces in and around Lilong to maintain law and order. Curfew-like restrictions have also been placed to prevent further escalation of the situation. The district administration has appealed to the public to remain calm and not be swayed by rumors or misinformation circulating on social media platforms.

Speaking to the media, police officials confirmed that an investigation is underway and that efforts are being made to identify those involved in the arson attack. “Strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty. We are reviewing CCTV footage and gathering eyewitness accounts,” said a senior police officer.

Political leaders across parties have condemned the act of violence, calling for restraint and peaceful dialogue. The BJP has denied that any anti-community remarks were made, clarifying that the leader’s statements were misinterpreted and taken out of context.

The incident has sparked debate over the Waqf Act in the region, with sections of the public expressing concerns about religious rights and property governance. Authorities have stressed the importance of addressing such issues through legal and democratic channels rather than resorting to violence.

The situation remains under close watch, and officials have assured that law and order will be maintained at all costs.
