Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has urged its students from Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran to refrain from commenting on national affairs, citing the need to maintain campus harmony and avoid unnecessary political disruptions. This directive has been issued as part of the university’s effort to foster a peaceful academic environment, especially in light of the growing political tensions across different regions.
The university's administration emphasized that students should focus on their studies and refrain from engaging in discussions that could potentially disturb the campus atmosphere. While AMU promotes free thought and academic debate, it highlighted the importance of keeping political and national issues separate from university life, particularly when these issues involve countries in politically sensitive situations.
AMU has made it clear that the aim of this guideline is not to restrict free speech but to ensure that students from different nationalities can live and learn together without being affected by external political conflicts. The university's leadership believes that such an approach is vital to maintain the educational institution’s primary focus on learning and academic growth.
The directive has sparked a range of reactions among the students, with some expressing support for the move to keep politics out of the campus, while others believe that it stifles freedom of expression. However, the university continues to uphold its stance on the matter, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful and productive environment for all its students.
