Continuous heavy rainfall in Ayodhya has led to severe waterlogging in Jalwanpura, one of the city’s densely populated areas. Several homes have been submerged, roads have turned into water channels, and daily life has come to a standstill for hundreds of families. The heavy rain that began earlier this week has overwhelmed the existing drainage infrastructure, causing widespread flooding and inconvenience.
Residents report that rainwater has entered ground-floor houses, damaging household items and food supplies. In many homes, water levels have reached knee height, making it difficult for people to stay indoors safely. The situation is particularly difficult for elderly residents, children, and those with health conditions.
Basic necessities such as clean drinking water and food are in short supply. Many families have not been able to cook or purchase groceries for days. Several shops and small businesses in the area remain closed due to flooding. Local residents are depending on packaged food and water being distributed by municipal authorities and volunteer groups.
The Ayodhya Municipal Corporation has deployed pumps and emergency workers to drain water from the most affected streets. Temporary relief shelters have been set up in nearby schools and community halls to house displaced residents. Medical teams have also been stationed at these shelters to offer first aid and monitor the risk of waterborne diseases.
Health officials have warned that prolonged water stagnation could lead to outbreaks of infections, especially in children. Mosquito breeding and sanitation concerns are also being addressed through chemical spraying and cleanup drives. Authorities are urging residents to boil water before drinking and to avoid wading through floodwater unless necessary.
District officials have confirmed that weather conditions are being closely monitored, and more rainfall is expected in the next 48 hours. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for continued rain in parts of Uttar Pradesh, including Ayodhya.
Transportation in and out of Jalwanpura has been disrupted, with auto-rickshaws and two-wheelers unable to operate in waterlogged lanes. Emergency vehicles are being given priority access to reach affected households. Power supply has also been interrupted in certain blocks as a precautionary measure, to prevent accidents due to short circuits.
Local residents have expressed concern over the lack of long-term solutions to recurring flooding issues. Many believe that poor drainage infrastructure and delayed maintenance have contributed to the severity of the current crisis.
Ayodhya district administration has assured that all necessary steps are being taken to restore normalcy. Relief operations will continue until water is fully drained and affected families are safely back in their homes. People are advised to stay informed through official channels and report any emergencies to the nearest control room or helpline.
