Authorities have detained three individuals for questioning and are currently reviewing CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts to determine the exact sequence of events and the individuals responsible for inciting the violence.

A tense situation unfolded in Prayagraj on Friday afternoon when a clash broke out between Kanwariyas and local residents near a mosque during Friday prayers. The incident occurred in a sensitive locality where both religious sentiments and public safety were at stake, prompting immediate intervention by law enforcement.

According to local police officials, the disagreement began when a group of Kanwariyas was passing through the area with loud music as part of their annual pilgrimage. Some residents objected to the noise during the time of prayers, leading to an argument that quickly escalated into a physical altercation. Stones were reportedly thrown by both sides, and minor injuries were sustained by a few individuals.

The police responded quickly to control the situation and prevent it from turning into a larger communal conflict. Additional security forces were deployed in the area, and the crowd was dispersed peacefully. Authorities have detained three individuals for questioning and are currently reviewing CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts to determine the exact sequence of events and the individuals responsible for inciting the violence.

Senior officials, including the District Magistrate and the Senior Superintendent of Police, visited the site and held discussions with community leaders to restore peace and ensure that tensions did not spread to surrounding areas. Flag marches and foot patrolling were conducted to reassure residents and deter any further disturbances.

In a statement, the police urged the public not to believe in rumours and warned that strict action would be taken against those spreading misinformation or attempting to incite violence. Local leaders from both communities have also appealed for peace and cooperation during the ongoing religious festivities.

The district administration has imposed temporary restrictions under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code to prevent gatherings and maintain public order in the area until the situation normalises. Authorities have assured that adequate arrangements are in place to allow both religious practices to continue peacefully and without interference.

The Kanwar Yatra is an annual religious pilgrimage during which devotees of Lord Shiva collect holy water from the Ganga River and carry it back to their hometowns. While it is a widely respected tradition, in recent years there have been increasing reports of confrontations and traffic disruptions linked to the movement of large groups.

The local administration has reiterated its commitment to balancing religious freedom with public order and safety. Efforts are being made to streamline the routes of such religious processions and coordinate better with local communities to prevent conflicts in the future.

Investigations into the Prayagraj incident are ongoing, and further action will be taken based on evidence and legal procedures. Authorities have also deployed peace committees in the affected area to monitor the situation and assist in maintaining harmony.
